Four Ways to Make a Great Conference Meeting for Your Business

For a variety of purposes, many businesses need to schedule conferences from time-to-time. Some employees look forward to a day out of the office, but others are less-than-thrilled by this excursion. Creating an employee-centered conference helps to heighten interest and increase participation.

Employee-Led Instructions

While some employees might be nervous about speaking in-front of the group, using positive reinforcement and encouragement can help to pull some stellar ideas out of them. Also, employees don’t want to sit and listen to one person speak all day. Varying the instructions and seminars provided holds the interest of your colleagues and offers them information on a larger array of subjects than one individual could offer.

Practical Conference Spaces

You want to make sure the location is practical for everyone. Choosing local hotels, conference centers and restaurants with meeting rooms is one idea. For example, expecting employees to shell out money to travel and stay over at a hotel is not the best way to get them motivated. If the trip requires travel, the excursion should be fully funded. Otherwise, consider the means of transportation your employees use to get to work. If most of them take the train, selecting a spot accessible only by car is not the wisest choice.

Food and Breaks

At the conference, the main focus must be on the job and ways to improve the company. However, even during a regular work day, employees have breaks and at least a little bit of time to themselves. Getting employees to interact with each other socially is an excellent way to build better bonds in the professional community, so allocate time for them to enjoy some food and to just communicate with each other in a friendly way.

Combine Workshops and Lectures

Throughout the day, your employees are going to listen to a lot of talks, but you also want to see how they would apply those skills they have learned in real life. Break the larger group into teams and have them role play together, or set up workshop stations where employees have to complete a task based on the skills they just learned. Interactive activities allow you to break up the day but to also see your employees at-work using the methods that acted as the focus of the day.

When your company is headed to a conference, taking steps to ensure that it’s employee-centered will give you excellent results.
